Book Your HS&E Test Online

Use this service to book the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test. Most people need to pass this test before they can get a CSCS card.

Booking takes around 5 minutes. You will need your personal details, your address and a debit or credit card.

A CITB HS&E test costs £65. You can add a CSCS card application at the same time.

What you need to book

  • Your personal email address, so your booking confirmation reaches you
  • Your full UK postal address
  • The type of HS&E test you need (operative, specialist, supervisor or manager)
  • The test centre and date you would prefer
  • Your CITB registration number, if you have taken an HS&E test before or applied for a CSCS, CPCS or CISRS card
  • A debit or credit card to pay
  • Details of any support you need during the test, such as a translator, a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter or help with reading

ID you must bring

Every ID document you bring must be the original (not a photocopy or a photo on your phone, except an eVisa), in date, and in the same name as your booking. If your name has changed, also bring original proof such as a marriage certificate or deed poll.

Bring one of these

It must show your full name, a clear photo and your signature:

  • Passport (UK or international)
  • Photocard driving licence (UK or European)
  • eVisa, shown using View and Prove through your UKVI account

Or bring two of these instead

If you do not have any of the above, bring one item from each list.

List A — with your name and photo

  • Non-UK or non-EU photocard driving licence
  • Passport without a signature
  • European national identity card
  • CitizenCard or proof of age card with the PASS hologram
  • Young Scot card with the PASS hologram
  • CSCS or CSCS partner card with the hologram
  • UK Armed Forces or Veteran ID card
  • UK Home Office travel document

List B — with your name and signature

  • Debit or credit card
  • Paper driving licence issued before 31 March 2000
If you do not bring the right ID you will not be allowed to sit the test, and the test fee will not be refunded. In exceptional cases, or if you are under 16, a CITB ID form may be accepted — contact us before your test if this applies to you.

On the day of your test

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before your test starts
  • Bring your booking confirmation email or letter
  • Bring the correct ID (see above)
  • Keep your score report safe after the test — you will need the details on it for your CSCS card application
